Concordia Seward Claims 25 Students Studying the Organ
By Rev. Jack Cascione

The following message is quite a surprise. We were informed that Bronxville has no students studying the organ and River Forest is preparing to close its graduate department and cut back the program due to a lack of students. We were also informed by an "expert" that there are only 9 students training to be full-time church organists in all 10 of the LCMS Universities. If the following message is correct, then Seward has more students training to be church organists than all the other Universities in the CUS System combined. Keep up the good work Concordia Seward!

Good morning,

I don't know where you received information that only 9 students were studying to be church organists in the entire CUS system.

Here, at Concordia University, Seward, we have 25 students who are studying organ with the goal of being a church organist. We also have quite a few scholarships available for students who wish to study organ.

I'm sure if you checked with the music departments at the other Concordias you would find the total is indeed more than the 9 you mentioned.

Blessings,

David Held,
Professor of Music Emeritus
Concordia University, Seward
