Elowsky Supports Werning On the Trinity

By: Rev. Jack Cascione

Reverend Earl Elowsky writes:

"Well, Pr. Cascione has done it again.  In trying to answer the errors he ascribes to Werning he has fallen into error himself.  We know that he subscribes to the Athanasian Creed.   His statements, however, don't sound as if he does.  Before he say's 'all of God died on the cross, etc.,' he should have consulted his dictionary.  I assume that he intends to write in English.  Under 'all' the pertinent entries (the standard Merriam Webster, Ninth ed.) are" the whole AMOUNT or QUANTITY of, as much as possible, every member or individual COMPONENT of, the whole NUMBER or sum of.,'  Under "entire": "having no ELEMENT or PART left out (emphasis mine)."  We know that what Cascione is trying to say, but what he says is in error.

One can only say: 'God died on the cross on Good Friday.'  That is because of this Biblical truth: 'Jesus is God.  Jesus died on the cross.  Therefore, God died on the cross' period.  One may add the adjective 'true.'  But Cascione errs in his statement.  This error is almost as egregious as his equating the voters' assembly with the church.

Of course, no one will ever be able to convince him of the former error any more than we have been able to convince him of the latter.  I hope whatever adjudicatory entity that hears his case will be able to straighten him out, but I won't hold my breath.

You ought to be whipped with a wet noodle for allowing his error to be printed in your paper, Herman.

Sincerely in Christ,

Earl W. Elowsky, Pr. Ret.
