Report On Daystar (Dullstar) Conference At Chesterfield , MO

Rev. Jack Cascione

Reclaim News received the following report from Doctor Anne Driessnack who attended the Daystar Conference at Chesterfield , MO on January 11-13.

Not all in attendance were in agreement with the Daystar agenda and speakers.  In attendance with Doctor Ann Driessnack were Grace Otten (Herman’s wife), Linda Preus (wife of Daniel Preus First Vice President of the LCMS), and Kathy Schulz (wife of Wallace Schulz, Second Vice President of the LCMS and fired Lutheran Hour Speaker).

Ann Driessnack writes:

“The attendance for the Daystar meeting was light, and the ‘pull’ of the main speaker, was not very effective.  When Dr. Benke spoke, perhaps 60-65 were present.  About 30-35 attended the sessions.

Jean Garton, who is on the LCMS Board of Directors, attended, as did Ralph Bohlmann, President Emeritus of the LCMS.

Bohlmann tried to tell me that the Schwan Foundation money is drying up, which is not so, and the general attitude toward the Schwan Foundation was antagonistic.

I asked for permission to pass out a promotion for the stunning new Schwan Center at Trego , Wisconsin , and was refused.  I was attempting to demonstrate how the Schwan Foundation is moving us into 2005, but Daystar’s interest in the Mission Affirmation Statements are moving us back to l965, when one of the Kretzmann brothers wrote them.

The entire conference was taken up with titles from the six Mission Affirmation Statements.  Each title with the word ‘Church’ in it is the title of one of the original Affirmation Statements.

‘The Church is God’s Mission ’ Tom Zehnder

‘The Church is Christ’s Mission to the World’ Yohannes Mengstead

‘The Church is Christ’s Mission to the Church’ Donald Muchow

‘The Church is Christ’s Mission to the Whole Society’ David Benke

‘God Bless This Mess—Please’ Stephan Krueger

‘The Church is God’s Mission to the Whole Person’ Marie Meyer

‘The Whole Church is God’s Mission – Symposium’ Robert Schmidt, Chris Reinke

‘Education For Ministry’ Matt Becker

‘The Ministries of Women’ Ruth Koch

The 1973 LCMS Convention rejected the Mission Affirmation Statements, which were supported by those who led the St. Louis Seminary Walkout in 1974.

The CTCR put the Mission Affirmation Statements on the Synodical shelf in l978, but Daystar wants to resurrect the old political issues instead of moving forward.  I’m sure, if they could, Daystar would put John Tietjen back as President of the St. Louis Seminary.

A woman served the bread and wine to all at the Eucharist Service and the preacher; Stephen Krueger poured invectives on conservatives during his sermon, to the point that several scholars challenged him after the service.

I told Benke he should not say the word ‘God.’  He should say the Triune God because from his context we can’t tell if he is talking about the Moslem god or the Christian God.

The content of the presenters was light compared to the presenters and their content at the recent Walther Conference at the St. Louis Seminary where the attendance was five times as great.  At least, I was hoping for something that would hold my interest, whether I agreed or disagreed, but it was all so boring.  They should change their name to Dullstar.

Needless to say, several of us did not take communion.  The list of people sending their regrets for not attending was read, and many of them were from the St. Louis area.

Fortunately a number of these same individuals found their way to the Walther Conference in November of 2003, and we look forward to joining with them again this November.

Soli Deo Gloria.”

Reclaim News is not surprised that Daystar would resurrect the six Mission Affirmation Statements from the 60’s.  When Libs talk about “church;” congregational polity, lay participation, and voter supremacy are the last things on their minds.  It is all about what they are going to do.

According to  “Eph 5: 26 : That he might sanctify and cleanse it [the church] with the washing of water by the word” and

“Matthew 16:18 . . . upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

The Daystar Libs confuse the work of Christ and His Gospel with the Church He came to save.  Maybe Daystar thinks they are the Church and therefore they are God, or at least stand as leaders in the church in place of God.

Don’t miss the next issue of Christian News.  We are told that Otten will have seven pages covering the Daystar meeting.  You can be sure that CN’s coverage will be more interesting than what actually took place.
